NewsWORLD’S CEMENT PRODUCTION AND MONGOLIAN AMBITION

Mongolia is listed above many countries based on individual’s development, people’s average IQ and their intellectual capabilities. However, uneven and unfair personal income/revenue pulls these stats down below average level determined globally. Even though Mongolia has every sort of natural resources and low population, its industrial branches are not sufficiently developed and has limited sources of income for national treasury causing GDP per capita to be kept at below 5000 USD.

Half of heavy industry branches are owned by the government, which shows very limited opportunities and limited policies for the industrial branch and national producers to thrive. We cannot say that we were like this from the beginning. About 30 years ago, Mongolia used to manufacture shoes and clothes for our own use and sometimes even exported the products and produce ham, cheese, and food materials, which was independent from anyone. Even industrial complexes that we almost forgot that it existed not long ago used to employ over 7000 workers. In this period of time, concepts of active and large plants and facilities, plant workers and specialized personnel, and actual manufacturing have all become memories in peoples’ mind. Thousands of professional engineers, specialists and workers had to step out to the streets from the lack of management and coordination by the government, which caused the downfall of the heavy industry. Up until recently, I thought “Industrial Complex” was only the name for bus station.

When the whole country had only one state-owned cement plant and imported 90 percent of its cement consumption from our neighbor in the south, and its portal city Zamiin-Uud that had nothing but covered with dust, Monpolymet first built the privately owned Moncement plant for the development of its country. With its 30 long years of experiences, Monpolymet group was able to revive the heavy industry that has slept for far too long and brought fresh air into the industrial branch of Mongolia. It was much bigger ambition and also was shock to the others. The country that transported import cements by wagons and wagons stirring up dusts and dirts along the way up until recently managed to build complex cement plant with advanced and modern innovative technologies and started producing its own cement that meets with European standards. This was an unforgettable moment when the country’s economy diversified and became more colorful.

After doing extensive researches and gathering experiences from France, Denmark, the Great Britain, South Korea, and Japan, Monpolymet finally chose to collaborate with Lafarge Holcim Group, who is considered to be the magnet in cement industry to implement the construction project of cement plant in Mongolia. As of today, Moncement plant is the only one in Mongolia that has WHR or Waste Heat Recovery system that utilizes waste heat to produce energy. In addition, main engineers and technical personnel from the plant are constantly sent for training at cement plants owned by Lafarge Holcim Group, “FLSmith” of Denmark, and “Halla cement” of South Korea to gain new knowledge, experiences, and skills.
